>Going to film school gave me the space and time I needed to find out what stories I wanted to tell, who I was as a filmmaker and help to hone my visual and aesthetic style. It was great to make whatever type of film you wanted to make, and when it gets critiqued at the end of term to a level you never even thought of, it forced you to think that much harder for your next production.
I also believe that LFS opened avenues for me that may not have been possible if I'd trawled up through the industry/runner route. Being given the chance to direct the LFS trailer on a professional level, using equipment for free that would be reserved for the most expensive ad campaigns, and dealing with a client, helped me gain my current employment as a commercials director.
This might have taken years of work in other fields such as music videos to even be seen by a commercials production company, so I'm indebted to having done the trailer.
