synopsis:
Ricardo Tubbs (Jamie Foxx) is urbane and dead smart. He lives with Bronx-born Intel analyst Trudy (Naomie Harris), as they work undercover transporting drug loads into South Florida to identify a group responsible for three murders. Sonny Crockett (Colin Farrell) [to the untrained eye, his presentation may seem unorthodox, but procedurally, he is sound] is charismatic and flirtatious until - while undercover working with the supplier of the South Florida group - he gets romantically entangled with Isabella (Gong Li).
Miami Vice is written and directed by Michael Mann (Collateral, The Insider, Heat)

The London Film School - Pogo Films challenge
In partnership with Pogo films, a Soho based post-production outfit set up by LFS alumni, LFS is running a competition to produce a 50th anniversary film. This is a great opportunity to shoot on 35mm, work to a brief and produce another showreel piece. Plus the winner will receive £750 worth of Kodak stock and a week's free camera and light hire (courtesy of Panavision and Lee Lighting) to be used on their next project.
It also offers the chance to work closely with a Soho Post house and learn about Final Cut pro editing techniques. The winning film will be screened at all LFS 50th events, including a month long retrospective at the NFT in June.
LFS students will need to submit a pitch for the 1 minute film.
Eligibility
Eligible applicants are current students terms 1-6, or recent graduates of The London Film School (anyone who graduated in 2005 or due to graduate in 2006). Applications will be accepted from individuals or teams.
The Head Of Unit (HOU) could be a Producer, Director or DOP and must be a student or alumni of LFS. Other crew members do not have to be from LFS.
Budget
The chosen film will be shot on 35mm, post produced digitally and scanned back to film. This route is called "DI" for Digital intermediary.
Pogo films will award a £500 production budget to the winning script.
This will be matched by a £500 budget from LFS.
Free 35mm stock will be provided by Kodak.
Free hire of all necessary camera and lights equipment will be provided by Panavision and Lee Lighting
Pogo Films will handle all post-production and the students will have the chance to creatively participate in the edit.
Brief
The brief is to make a 1 minute 50th anniversary film. This should include the 50th anniversary logo and feature the tag line "A tradition of innovation" Ideally it should convey at least one of the key recruitment messages.
- Global - the world's most international film school
- Practical - total immersion in the film-making process, producing around 180 films per year.
- Professional - truly industrial level film exercises on location and built sets.
- Proven - Thousands of succesful alumni over 50 years of operation.
However, there are no regulations in terms of style. Entries can range from a dialogue-led character piece to a more abstract poetic experimental film. We'd like to see the brief interpreted with strong, creative ideas but there are no guidelines for the structure or format.
Examples of the LFS advertising campaign can be seen at LFS Ad Campaigns, but there is no requirement to follow this creative line.
The film must be no longer than 1 minute screen time. It has to have Sync sound. No Visual effects. The finished film must have an all-original soundtrack and contain no copyrighted images or labels.
Shooting must take place no later than May 17th.
Application Procedure
Proposals sent must include the following:
- A filled out application form (the Producer, Director or DOP must be one of the applicant/s)
- The applicant/s CV/s
- A one paragraph synopsis
- A two-line pitch
- A director's statement of intention
- Ideally a script, but this is not essential
A designated panel will make a shortlist and may need to interview short listed candidates.
LFS and Pogo Films will then choose the winning candidate from the shortlist.
The decision will be announced by email on 26 April (pm), and will be final.
Pre-production will start immediately as time is pressing!

THE LONDON FILM SCHOOL presents WRITERS' GYM
For the first time The London Film School will present a FREE two day intensive workshop as part of SCENARIO3!, the annual weekend festival for UK and French screenwriting at the French Institute. WRITERS’ GYM will be led by Ellis Freeman, LFS tutor and writer of award-winning feature ‘Princesa’ and the upcoming ‘January 2nd’. It is aimed at anyone who might be thinking of taking up a full time screenwriting course like the new MA at the London Film School, and will take 15 participants through a series of fast, creativity-building writing and collaboration exercises.
If you're a potential professional screenwriter, or a writer-director planning a feature and writing short films, the gym could be for you. It will last two days, from Friday January 20th to Saturday 21st and you should be available to travel to the French Institute in South Kensington on both days, at your own expense.
WRITER'S GYM participants will also gain free entry to all SCENARIO3! events from 19 - 21 January at Ciné lumière. This year's festival combines screenings of French and British films with a masterclass by the renowned scriptwriting team Agnès Jaoui and Jean-Pierre Bacri, creators of last year's hit film 'Look At Me', a discussion on dialogue in film, and a preview screening of Michael Winterbottom's 'A Cock and Bull Story'. Animator Sylvain Chomet ('Les Triplettes de Belville') will introduce his new project, 'The Illusionist', whose screenplay, penned by the late great Jacques Tati, will be read live on stage by actors Paul Ryan and Lucy Russell. Rounding things off will be the UK premiere of 'My Uncle', the English-language version of Tati's 'Mon Oncle
HOW DO I ENTER
Simply send your cv and a three page writing sample to l.darcy@lfs.org.uk before January 13th 5pm. Places are limited to 15 participants chosen by an LFS selection panel. Applicants will be informed by 17th January whether they have been successful.
SCENARIO3! is organised by the French Institute, Regards Croises, the London Film School and the National Film and Television School, in association with the Script Factory. . Further programme info at The French Institue
